On Ledges of Paper Towns
The poet takes drags
off the 6 o’clock news.
Gossips with congregating
crows on hollowed branches.
Digests bloodied sunsets —
sipping spilt light.
Dons humanities ashen
shadows like a felt hat.
Confronts mortality everyday
on the ledges of paper towns —
ghost white landscapes
void of direction
and longing for lineage,
or some profound declaration.
Incendiary words take aim
to darken phantom plains;
the gut rot anticipation
of a fly-by bombing.
Rain begins nosediving
instead. One by one
then all at once.
The crows
noiseless now.
And the poet
doesn’t have
one
goddamn
thing
to say.
T.F. Jennings is the pseudonym of producer, songwriter, media music composer, and poet, Tyler Fortier. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Fortier spent years performing under his own name sharing the stage with Frazey Ford, Dave Barnes, David Dondero, Matt Pond PA, and more. He has produced recordings for the likes of Jeffrey Martin, Anna Tivel, and Beth Wood, and as a media music composer his music has been placed all over the world. His debut EP In the Teeth of the Night is due out April 30th, 2024. Fortier lives in Eugene, Oregon with his wife and two children.
